Activity 1: An Intro To Special Effects Notes.
Special Effects: These are visual illusions used in the film/television/theatre/video game industry used to create a simulated event in a story. Special effects can be divided into optical effects and mechanical effects. Optical effects are techniques where images are created photographically. Mechanical effects are usually used during shooting, such as props, scenery and so on.
Visual Effects: The process by which imagery is created or manipulated outside of live action shooting.
Practical Effects: Practical effects are produced physically without the use of computers/editing softwares.
Chroma Key: A technique used of a which a block of either blue or green in a video image can be replaced by another color or image.
Green Screen: Very similar to chroma key, but you are only able to use a block of green. The main use for green screen is the contrast, and it can isolate one area from the other better then chroma key.
Garbage Matte: A simple effect that allows you to define which pixels are visible and which should be transparent.
Differences of the above: Chroma key uses either blue or green blocks, green screen uses only green blocks for isolation, and garbage mattes is used to remove/define pixels that are visible.

Favorite Movie Scene: The scene in my blue heaven where Vinnie, played by Steve Martin, Is proving to Hannah that she has no sense of humour.
Why the director: He’s my favorite director because he directed the movie Forrest Gump and it was so well made. He also directed Back To The Future which is another one of my favorite movie series.
Why the movies: Forrest Gump because it was very well made and got me emotionally attached to the characters. Harry Potter is my favorite movie series of all time, but specifically the Half Blood Prince because there is always something happening and the plot is extremely interesting. 2 Fast 2 Furious because it is one of the funniest movies in the series.
Why the scene: I like the scene in my Blue Heaven because Steve Martin plays the character of a person named Vinnie, and this character is extremely sarcastic. The way he proves his point is very funny and it just sort of stuck with me.
