Cape Town World Design Capital 2014

Cape Town World Design Capital 2014
Logo Submission
Every 4 years, international capitals bid to be the World Design Capital. The title is bestowed upon the city that best conveys their dedication to urban, social and cultural design projects. For thsi logo submission I focused on what the award could mean for the city of Cape Town, traditionally divided after years of apartheid driven separate development. The best and most iconic illustration of this separation were the two unfinshed highways that scar opposite ends of the metropole. I considered the map of the city and devised a logo that would represent the bridging of these two structures, and echo the broader significance of the 2014 title. If you place the logo over the map, it links the two highways, so that even if they cannot be completed in concrete, they can be made one through design, and further to that, help win the 2014 bid that would focus new urban planning solutions on a divided city. Cape Town won the bid and is now World Design Capital for the year 2014.
