Ich koche also bin ich
(I cook therefore I am)
During 2011 and 2012 I asked people from Berlin to cook a dish of their choice for me and let me document this process and our talk with my photo camera and audio recorder while cooking. In total I was invited by five hosts of different origins, age, living conditions and attitude towards cooking. Some of them cooked traditional dishes, others just improvised some meal or put a lot of effort on the cooking process. Some thought cooking was a burden, for some others cooking is a pleasure. The dishes were either eaten really quickly or they were the reason for having long conversations.
The photographs and interviews are exhibited since 2015 at the Culinarium, Germany's first permanent exhibition on the cultural history of food which can be found at the Berlin Museum Domäne Dahlem. Just drop by if you are in Berlin!
