USER EXPERIENCE // USER INTERFACE // VISUAL DESIGN
lookbook.nu is a popular website among the fashion community. Used by models, photographers, fashion bloggers, stylists, designers to catalogue ‘looks’, Lookbook serves as a source of inspiration for the fashion-conscious. Designing the mobile app version of Lookbook was a personal study in how to translate existing desktop-based website designs into a mobile app format. I also took this opportunity to slightly alter the design of the brand and give it more va-va-voom.
I tried not to steer too far away from the original design of the brand - maintaining the modern, edgy, fashion-esque look. The brand also strictly uses only black and white in its color palette, allowing the photographs to take the primary focus.
In designing the mobile app and its flow, I referenced similar apps - Instagram, Pinterest, VSCO. As many mobile app users are already familiar with the UX/UI behind these existing apps, I tried my best to have the Lookbook app as user intuitive as possible. Why redesign what already works? *-*
USER INTERFACE / USER EXPERIENCE
The primary functions of the app are located in the tab bar - also highlighted in grey in the above user flow chart. Below are screenshots of the app - onboarding, a user profile, and 'look'.
In the animations below, you can see how a user would interact with the app. Additionally, I borrowed the 'verified' account feature seen in Twitter and Instagram to highlight those accounts who more well known. In the examples below, the user with the 'check' is a celebrity stylist - I think this feature would allow fans and other 'hobbyist'-users to stay updated on style trends and know exactly who is wearing what.
