Hello everyone, a good few months ago I was asked to develop 2D concepts of animal characters into 3D with this Polar Bear being the first of 10 that I was tasked with. The turnaround time was tight, only having 4-5 days to complete each one. These characters were developed primarily in Zbrush, with a little assistance from MODO and Maya. Considering the fur needed for this, I turned to Yeti to help achieve the results. My plan was to provide a turntable, however, since I work off of one workstation I am severely under powered to manage the render times for a decent duration turnaround. I have provided a brief breakdown, I hope its somewhat informative, and if there is anything else you would like to see related to this, please feel free to give me a shout.
Early stages of development, facial features and 'look' a critical focus.
Character in T-pose, initial idea was to have the character clothed, which I opted to leave out in presentation in favour of putting more emphasis on the fur.
Comparison of final pose to 2D concept. Once rigged, character was matched up to the original illustration, with some further tweaks of course.
Yeti node graph, showing only my approach to fur clumping, which is to grow various stages of fur, each one influencing the next.
