My Rose of Old Kentucky

This is one of my submissions for an art show held by the International Bluegrass Museum to honor the father of Bluegrass music, Bill Monroe. I was raised mere miles from where Monroe was born and I feel I have a unique perspective on the things that inspired his music and lyrics. The art show is for pieces created around his lyrics and this one is to the song, "My Rose of Old Kentucky."

She bloomed for me near a little villageIn a cabin on the hillWe made our vows we'd love each otherAnd I know we always will
She's my rose of old Kentucky I watched her bloom as the years roll byAnd to me there'll never be anotherI'll love her 'til the day I die
Oh in dreams I see my darlingIn a gingham dress she looks so sweetOh I long for old KentuckyAnd my darling was more to me
Oh I know you often wonderSo I'll tell you the reason whyShe's my rose of old KentuckyAnd I know she'll never lie
