Kyoto, Japan Travel Poster

Kyoto, Japan Travel Poster
For our first project, we were tasked with making a travel poster advertising a location, chosen by us, using only photos taken by us. After looking through our available photos we came across two from Kyoto, Japan and decided to use those.
After creating 12 sketches, we moved on to draw out our roughs to get a better idea of some of our plans.
With our roughs we decided the WPA style would fit our area best, and with the addition of more detail we were able to visualize the text placement a lot better. Looking at other posters and Behance posts for inspiration we were able to choose much easier.
After creating our two Comps using the two different photos, we were able to decide which one better fit with the WPA style and our word "Kyoto". Both photos had a unique and clean look to them but both had something that needed to be fixed in both. After looking at our problems and what we wanted to present in the poster itself we found the first Comp was the best choice.
Some of the problems we found with the first Comp was the buildings color, possibly the type face, and the location of the text itself. We selected out the top half of the building and changed the color to something that was much darker, and not green. We debated between the typeface we had currently and the "Governor" font we used for the other. After comparing them both side by side we decided the one we already had fit better with the poster we had created. To make sure the text was visible we moved it in front of the tree and made the "Japan" slightly larger.
