Sand from Kumköy/Turkey

You may ask yourself “what do I see here ?”
So let me tell you something about the pictures.

You see no pepples or gravel, it´s fine-grained sand as you know it from the beach.
In this case sand from the beach of Kumköy in Turkey.
In the sand are fragments of snails, shells, sea urchins and foraminifera (here for example the white, round parts).
Foraminifera are single-cell living beings. They can reach an age from several months or even some years, and the
most of them are extremely tiny.

I put the sand under the microscope and it´s always a surprise what there is to see.
And I love it to take photos from this wonderful small world, which you can`t see with the naked eye.
Thank you for your interest

I take these sand pictures in 6,3-fold enlargement with a Canon 7D and a Carl Zeiss Jena LAB microscope.
