Senna
watercolor painting
Watched the Senna documentary a few months ago that came out in 2010 and it completely blew my mind. I was a big fan, but beside the races I saw back then, the intense media coverage of his rivalry with Prost, and the obvious fact that he was just endlessly awesome, I didn't really know that much more about him. I was just 14 years old when he hit that ominous concrete wall and can still clearly remember staring at my little black & white TV set in disblief as it happened. That sport was never the same for me since.
Anyway, the evening I saw that documentary was coincidentally 2 weeks before May 1st, the 18th anniversary of Senna's death. So few days later, still being haunted my the film and my memories of that tragic day, I decided to pick up a pen and finally pay tribute to one of my main childhood heroes. Started painting over the sketch a few hours later, did everything in about a week. It was fun, but also an emotional process. It still gets to me every time I see these pictures. Never forget what an incredible soul he was.
