Selaka Kotagede (Kotagede Silver) Rebranding

SELAKA KOTAGEDE REBRANDING

This is a project in collaboration with Air Asia Foundation to improve the visual branding of Selaka Kotagede, a brand of authentic silversmiths from Kotagede, Yojyakarta, Indonesia. 
PROBLEM
Selaka Kotagede has a history that dates back to the 15th century. The silversmiths passed down that heritage and craftsmanship in the family till this day. But people are buying largely commercialised silver crafts instead of those that carry that authenticity and heritage in every piece.

How do we make people see the value in it?
BRAND INSIGHT
All silversmiths gain experience and knowledge from training and apprenticeship that has been done from generation to generation. They don’t only pass on their craft but their values as well: Pride, Determination, Competence and Beauty. 
Design Elements
Flowers that can be found in Yojyakarta are used to represent the four values. A single line is used to signify the passing on of the silversmith craft and values. Green is used because it is the colour of the flower stem which connects the flowers.

Signage
Sign boards guide tourists to visit the silversmiths’s workshop.
