Sarì
For my Basic Graphic Design finals, me and a partner (Luigi Lim) were tasked to create and design a new brand of lambanog.

Lambanog is a special type of coconut arrack or wine made from buko, or a young coconut. It is mostly produced in the Quezon Province from the sap of the coconut flower, which is then fermented and distilled to make the liquor. It is very common in the Philippines and very connected to the culture. Source.

For the project, we were only given a few specifications: the drink must be suitable for families to share with each other, it must be something that would fit in during festive celebrations, and it must showcase a part of Filipino culture. Other than that, we were given free reign to design it how we saw fit. And that's how we came up with Sarì.

Most competing Philippine lambanog brands tend to go to the extremes. They're either extremely homemade and traditional, or very modern with little to no cultural elements. With Sarì, we aimed to balance Filipino aesthetics with contemporary design styles. The brand would be a reinvention of something familiar.

Name
Derived from the words "sarimanok" (a multi-coloured bird from Philippine mythology) and "sari-sari" (meaning various/variety), Sarì is a play on the two sides of Filipino culture: the colourful, cultural side, and the unique yet multitudinous side.

Design
The branding and style merges Filipino festiveness with modern style. Drawing inspiration from the Bulihan festival of the Quezon province, where the beverage is made, the plants and colours reflected the kind of decorations found during this event. Rendering it with a flat and modern style really pushed it to a more contemporary feel. Combining hand-written typography with sans serif fonts served to further push the concept of combining the modern with the cultural.

The imagery are all derived from some aspect of the lambanog creation. Coconut flowers and leaves were illustrated, as well as the leaves of each fruit used as a flavour. Each fruit (mango, rambutan, chico, and atis) used are native to the Philippines.
Packaging Design
Mockup
The bottle is meant to emulate the approximate shape of a coconut and the packaging is supposed to wrap around it.
Collateral
Envelopes, business cards, letterheads, brochures, social media collateral (posters, Instagram posts, etc), flyers.
