Cross-talk is the effect experienced when in a crowded room trying to listen to several conversations at once. Occasionally, you get stuck in the middle, and pieces of the conversations begin to melt into one another. Sometimes the listener begins to confuse who said what when and where. The same effect is experienced when talking on the phone, and the person on the other end of the line begins to drone on while something interesting comes on the TV. You don't want to be caught not paying attention, but what is going on on the TV is so interesting, you can't tune it out completely either. This is a typographic illustration depicting this experience.
