For four consecutive summers , 1979 thru 1982, I taught at th Wesleyan U in Middletown CT . SUMMER CONSTRUCT was made in th studio/ office space which I then occupied in the Arts complex which had been designed by archt Kevin Roche.

Painted in my studio over th Bagel Shop on Central St in Bangor in winter 1983. I had moved to Bangor from Ithaca NY where I had taught th fall 1982 semester at Cornell U .
In my Bangor studio , I had begun to work in a much more PAINTERLY manner than I had heretofore .

All of the paintings depicted in th photo above were made in Bangor 20 years prior to my 2003 UMMA solo exhibit there . At the time , 1983 , my studio was located over a bagel shop in a bldg immediately adjacent to th current museum facility ! These pictures are part of the very first group of paintings which I made in MAINE.

note : This was the very first painting made by me in Portland ME ---- painted on the kitchen floor of the apartment on Deering St which was then th abode of my friend , Marie L'Heureux , who now teaches Dept of Architecture , U of Kansas.
