Room to Grow is a Montessori-inspired in-home daycare center for ages 2 to 5 in Portland, Oregon. Their mission is to “provide a safe space for your child to expand their new world through play, crafts, reading, and song.”
Room to Grow proprietor Rachel Ivey, ever the self-effacing charmer, used the phrase “hipster free-range child care” when describing the vibe that she was looking for in a logo for her new in-home business. To that end, I worked with Rachel to select two friendly, organic-looking typefaces, (Paris Serif by La Goupil Paris and Wee Todd by Typadelic,) tweaked the letterforms a bit, and then illustrated an ivy vine encircling the wordmark as a nod to Rachel’s last name. The logo colors were selected to match and complement the home’s exterior paint job.
