Table Tangle is a little silkscreen I made using the CMYK printing process (with layers scanned and derived from a tiny gouache painting I did) along with a little bit of hand reduction. The title is a straightforward descriptor of the piece: a dinner table in the middle of a tangle of eaters, human and animal. There's a healthy dose of nonsense at play here, from the absurdity of the interactions to the silliness of the objects on the table to the physical impossibility of the environment, all squeezed into a too-small space.

This was made at a time when I was newly conceiving of works mixing themes of food, vegetarianism, and animal and human interactions. In this print I enjoyed playing with humorous yet troubling juxtapositions -- like a fish in a bowl next to a plated fish -- and my illustrative capacity to create a cohesive scene. This print felt like choreographing a dance and developing a pattern at the same time. My work on these themes (seen as well in Behind the Curtain of the Ortolan) make me feel somewhat like a devious puppeteer, and I want to push further undercurrents of the uncanny and the troubling into lighthearted, (scripted) sugary scenes.
