I made the first poster based on "The Fiddler on The Roof". My focus in this piece was on Tevye's quote:

"A fiddler on the roof? Sounds crazy, no? But here, in our little village of Anatevka, you might say every one of us is a fiddler on the roof trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck."
For the second piece I did for this project I decided to go with another powerhouse musical, "Les Miserables". I took inspiration from the song, "ABC cafe/ Red and Black", which obviously influenced my color choice.
After receiving the prompt I created numerous thumbnails and pitched them to my professor.
I conducted several studies to determine the style I wanted to pursue for the pieces.
I then did a pastel drawing and went into the shapes with graphite and eraser to sharpen shapes and values, with pen on the hair and beard on this particular piece.
I originally had the figures in blue monochrome with the intention of representing the french flag in the illustration, but in later versions found that flipping the piece horizontally and the high contrast red and black made a more impactful image.
