MANGALSALA is a neighbourhood of Northern District in Riga, the capital of Latvia. It is located on the right bank of Daugava River, on the coast of Gulf of Riga. This is the very first part of the city, which incoming ships see, going by Daugava from Riga gulf side. Exactly from Mangalsala there is a dike (or Eastern Jetty) going into the sea. The best place to experience the wonder of the place where these two great bodies of water meet is by standing right on the jetty. At sunset, if you walk along the concrete “catwalk” that stretches into the sea for several hundred meters, it feels like you’re walking on water.
