Referência/ Reference: Unwritten song
Se para o desenvolvimento visual da referência explorámos o estar perto e estar longe de alguém (assim como os sentimentos de obsessão, perseguição, proximidade e intimidade que estes dois estados despertam), para o desenvolvimento sonoro explorámos as partidas e chegadas enquanto elementos que nos aproximam ou afastam do outro.
For the development of our reference we explored the experience of being near or apart from someone as well as the feelings both the experiences bring. For example the obsession, persecution, proximity and intimacy.
Gravações/Recordings
Para conseguir criar dois ambientes distintos e as diferentes emoções que estes despoletam, procurámos ir buscar os sons que usámos a plataformas de “encontros e desencontros”, como a estação de comboios da Campanhã, estações de metro, e o aeroporto.
Em diferente contexto, gravámos também as respostas de amigos e conhecidos a perguntas sobre a saudade e a memória, de modo a mais concretamente conseguirmos caracterizar os sentimentos de estar longe e de estar perto do outro.
To create two different environments and emotions both carry, we recorded the sounds from places where people meet or say goodby, for example the Campanhã railway station, the underground or the airport. In a different context, we recorded answers from a few people about “saudade" (the feeling of missing someone) and memories so that we could better explain what it is like to be near or apart from someone.
Partida/Departure
A Partida é o momento de ruptura com o outro. É o momento em que se deixa alguém/algo e as emoções surgem de repente. Uma mistura de sentimentos e pensamentos sobre o passado, que nos causam ansiedade e permanecem num loop inquietante, aliados à sonoridade do espaço. Desta forma, para o som da Partida decidimos contrastar os sons mecanizados e industriais das máquinas, como metro e comboio, com conversas pessoais sobre o passado e a memória.

The departure is the moment of rupture with the other person. It is the moment you leave someone or something and the emotions come alive all of a sudden. It’s a misture of feelings and thougts about the past, that make us feel anxious and can be a overwhelming loop. The soud of the departure is a contrast between the mechanical and industrial souds of machines like the undergroud or the train with personal conversations about the past and memory. The soud is manipulated and edited to make the listener feel as he is in a place of departure.

Chegada/Arrival
O som da chegada representa o sentimento de pertença. É o voltar ao lugar seguro onde nos sentimos confortáveis e calmos. Para transmitir esta experiência criamos uma sequência que começa com sons mais mecanizados e com o chegar do comboio para progredir para um ambiente mais natural ouvindo-se pássaros e vozes a mencionar os seus próprios lugares seguros. Este som tenta transmitir a calma e a felicidade do voltar para aqueles que amamos tendo na sua essência sons mais quentes e suaves.

The sound "Arrival" represents the feeling of belonging. It is when we come back to the place we feel more confortable and calmer. To express this experience we created a sequence of mechanical sounds, such as the train, that gradually progresses to a more natural environment where we can hear birds and voices talkin about their personal stories. This sounds transmits the joy of coming back to those who we love having in its essence softer sounds and voices.
