Binding together a semester of design-led research, Cruft exists as a contemplative publication that uses process as both a method and a product of critical experimentation. Exploring territories of design practice that traverse both digital and analogue spaces, it uses critical methods of making to explore the potential of a new, uncategorised language for making. Cruft brings visibility to the nuances and complexities of our collective practices.

As an object of material speculation, contradiction and curiosity, it is a book about process; the act that too often hides between the exclamation of a new idea, and the packaging of a sleek end product. It is a still image from a lively performance; a single angle on an argument that calls for multiple. Collating a set of processes used both by myself and by others, emergent and established, it is a book that seeks to be questioned; to bring reflection and a positive consciousness towards what it is that we, as designers, do.
