“Alpha & Omega” es un proyecto artístico audiovisual
Que a través de danza contemporánea, abstrae aquel fantástico instante que dio origen a la totalidad de lo que hoy llegamos a ser, la creación; entendiendo el inicio de todo, como el despertar del mundo por medio de la música.
The subject that inspired this project
Is one that has always captivated my attention, a theme that is absolute, undeniable and fascinating: creation; the event that gave everything its beginning. A beginning that we a all impatiently long to understand more deeply, but because of the absence of knowledge, we've been forced to make use of our dear perceptive ally: creativity. The one that fills the blank spaces, with innumerable speculations, theories and magnificent stories. Stories that come from the most diverse and remote beliefs, stories with and endless amount of slippery narratives that surround us and make us believe, understand and question that instant of creation. That immeasurable but fantastic instant that, although we didn't witness, created everything we are.

El tema que le dio origen a este proyecto
Es uno que siempre ha cautivado mi atención, un tema absoluto, innegable y fascinante, la creación; el hecho por medio del cual todo tuvo un inicio. Un inicio del que impacientemente anhelamos tener un más profundo entendimiento, pero que, por ausencia de conocimiento, hemos sido forzados a hacer uso de nuestra perspicaz, pero querida aliada, la creatividad. Aquella que llena dichos espacios en blanco, con innumerables especulaciones, teorías y magníficas historias. Historias que nacen en las más diversas y remotas creencias, historias con un sinfín de narrativas escurridizas que nos envuelven y nos llevan a creer, a entender, a cuestionarnos sobre aquel instante, aquel inmensurable pero fantástico instante, del cual, aunque no fuimos testigos, dio origen a la totalidad de lo que hoy llegamos a ser.
And that was how, through this insatiable hunger for wanting to understand creation, I stumbled upon a beautiful, majestic and addictive perspective: music. Because what better way to understand creation than through music? I discovered this perspective through the admirable sections "Ainulindalë, the music of the Ainur” by J. R. R. Tolkien in The Silmarillion and "The creation of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis in The Magician's Nephew. These where the works that conceptually supported my project.

Y fue así como a través de esta insaciable hambre por querer entender la creación, que me topé con una hermosa, majestuosa y adictiva perspectiva, la música; pues qué otra forma más épica que todo lo que existe haya sido creado por medio de ella. Esta perspectiva la encontré en las admirables piezas de “Ainulindalë, la música de los Ainur” de J. R. R. Tolkien en El Silmarillion, así como “La creación de Narnia” de C. S. Lewis en “El Sobrino del Mago”; éstas fueron las que cimentaron conceptualmente mi proyecto.
But the real catalyst for “Alpha & Omega” was a remix
Called “A _ Ftərͺma _ Θ” by Stacy King, a song of heavenly choruses blended with electronic sounds and a suspenseful but accelerated tempo, which reminds me of "The music of the Ainur”. This collision is what gave birth to the video concept. This is a song I can listen to over and over again without getting tired of it, and continue to be fascinated by its spectacular melody and way of reinterpreting a celestial sound into a contemporary context. This song unleashed an anxiety in me that made me want to visually abstract the fusion of these two concepts, so I could somehow try to bring honor to such an extraordinary mix.
But even when I had the fusion of these two ideas, the concept wasn't complete. It wasn't, enough, I felt I had a vessel, but with no contents in it. Which is why in sifting through my mental library, I came across another collision worthy of my attention; It was the way in which the song had been named, “A _ Ftərͺma _ Θ” and not “Aftermath”. Because of this I wanted to understand the meaning of the word. Aftermath means consequence and the dictionary defines it as "an event or fact that follows or results from another". The application of this meaning was obvious. In the same album the remix is from, "The White Album", before this song there is another one called aftermath. I was due to this that the second one was spelled differently, seeing as, even if it was a continuation from the previous song, it was in fact its own separate composition. But beyond that, the way the name is spelled, at least to me, wasn't a coincidence, it was poetic, because it brought together two alphabets, latin and greek, into one word. This is perfect because the greek alphabet originated the latin one. This was what led me to find the true content of this vessel, the Alpha and the Omega.

Pero el verdadero detonante para “Alpha & Omega” fue un remix
Llamado “A _ Ftərͺma _ Θ” por Stacy King, una canción de corales celestiales conjugada con sonidos electrónicos y un tempo suspensivo pero acelerante, trayendo hacia mí el recuerdo de “La música de los Ainur” y haciendo colisión con el vibrante sonido de esta canción de Hillsong United, creando así, el concepto para este video. Una canción que puedo escuchar una, y otra, y otra vez, sin cansarme de ella; y seguir fascinado con su espectacular melodía y forma de reinterpretar un sonido celestial, a un contexto contemporáneo. Esta canción desencadenó en mí ansiedad por abstraer de forma visual, la fusión de estos dos conceptos, para de algún modo, poder brindar honor a tan extraordinaria mezcla.
Pero aún teniendo la fusión de estas dos ideas, el concepto no estaba completo, no era suficiente, sentía que tenía un recipiente, pero no contenido en él. Por lo cual, indagando en mi librería mental, me encontré con otra colisión digna de atención, y era el modo en que había sido nombrada la canción, “A _ Ftərͺma _ Θ” y no “Aftermath”. Debido a esto quise entender el significado de esta palabra; aftermath traduce consecuencia en español, y el diccionario la define como “Hecho o acontecimiento que se sigue o resulta de otro”, entonces la aplicación fue obvia; en el mismo “The White Album”, anterior a esta canción, hay otra llamada Aftermath, fue por esto que la segunda fue escrita de una forma diferente, ya que, aunque era una continuidad de la canción anterior, en si era otra composición a parte. Pero más allá de esto, la forma en que está escrito el nombre de la canción, para mí, no era condicional, era poético, pues entrelaza dos alfabetos, el latino y el griego, en una sola palabra y esto es perfecto, puesto que el alfabeto griego dio origen al latino. Esto fue lo que me llevó a encontrar el verdadero contenido para este recipiente, el Alfa y la Omega.
There's a common element stories of creation share:
The spark, the character who orchestrates creation, the one who decides to give life and a beginning. To me this is God. The bible describes him in thousands of admirable ways, and one of his facets is that of creator. In Jhon 1:3 it says " All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made", but one of my favorites, which complements the concept laid out in the previous verse, but in a more poetic way, is found in Revelation 22:13 where it says " I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last". In this biblical passage it is stated that creation originated in Him, and what captivated me the most where the words "Alpha and Omega", because, although you could argue that it seems like an out of context metaphor, it is so precise that it complements the idea of the verse perfectly. Taking this into account, these two letters, alpha and omega, make up part of the greek alphabet, which the song title references, and when I connected all these pieces , I saw how this puzzle took a more solid shape of the concept that I wanted to get across.

Hay un elemento que tienen en común las historias de la creación:
El detonante, el personaje que orquesta la creación, el que decide dar origen, para mí este es Dios. La Biblia lo describe de mil maneras admirables, y una de sus facetas es la de creador, en Juan 1:3 dice: “Todas las cosas por él fueron hechas, y sin él nada de lo que ha sido hecho, fue hecho”, pero una de mis favoritas, que complementa el concepto establecido por el anterior versículo, pero de una manera más poética, se encuentra en Apocalipsis 22:13, donde dice: “Yo soy el Alfa y la Omega, el principio y el fin, el primero y el último”, en esta porción bíblica se habla que la creación tuvo origen en Él; y lo que más me cautivó fueron las palabras “Alfa y Omega”, pues aunque se podría decir que parece una metáfora fuera de contexto, es tan precisa, que complementa perfectamente la idea de la frase. Teniendo esto en cuenta, estas dos letras, alfa y omega, hacen parte del alfabeto griego, del cual el nombre de la canción hace referencia; y al unir todas estas piezas, vi como este rompecabezas tomaba una forma más sólida, más clara del concepto que deseaba comunicar.
Now the challenge was in consolidating the idea, giving it shape
and character, giving it a face.
This is why I decided the name of the project would be "Alpha and Omega", but upon further consideration and looking at it from a graphic perspective, the word "and" was a bit mundane and not very graceful, and when I noticed that it featured prominently in the bible, the idea wasn't to eliminate it but rather enhance it. That's when I went with its more graceful counterpart, the ampersand "&", a typographic character that is incredibly attractive, with associative properties. It's a glyph that has taken a special place in my designer heart, it would become the definitive connection, the star of the name, just like in the video, the non-human representation of God.

Ahora el desafío era consolidar la idea, darle forma
y carácter, darle una cara.
Por esta razón había decidido que el nombre del proyecto sería “Alfa y Omega”, pero al verlo desde el punto de vista gráfico, la letra “y” era mundana y poco agraciada, y al notar que en el texto bíblico era una protagonista innegable, la idea no era eliminarla sino destacarla. Acudí entonces a su contraparte mayormente agraciado, el ampersand “&”, un caracter tipográfico increíblemente atractivo, de atribuciones asociativas; una grafía que ha tomado un espacio privilegiado en mi corazón de diseñador, este se convertiría en la conexión definitiva, el protagonista del nombre, así como del video, la representación no humana de Dios.
Having a sufficiently consolidated the concept and chosen a name as well as a clear objective with the project, there was still an important blank in the narrative: the characters. In “Ainulindalë”, the characters are the Ainur, divine beings that created the world through their voices, but I didn't want to literally represent them so what if the characters were the music itself? If we recall the basics of music, which is all I really know, the base of any musical composition are the notes. All the songs in the world are made up by them, and each one has a personality, a capacity and a character; it stands to reason that they would be the characters, because although each one is important, it's nothing without its siblings.

Teniendo entonces ya un concepto lo suficientemente consolidado, y habiendo escogido un nombre y un objetivo claro con el proyecto, me quedaba un vacío importante en la narrativa, los personajes. En “Ainulindalë” los personajes son los Ainur, seres divinos que a través de sus voces crearon el mundo, pero yo no quería en si representarlos a ellos, que tal entonces si mas bien los personajes eran la misma música, y si sabemos al menos lo más básico de música, que es lo que yo sé; tendrán en mente que la base de cualquier composición sonora son las notas musicales, todas las canciones del mundo se forman por medio de ellas, y cada una tiene una personalidad, una capacidad y un carácter; evidentemente ellas serían los personajes, pues una sola aunque importante, no es nada sin sus hermanas.

If each one is represented with a letter; Do with C, Re with D, Mi with E, Fa with F, Sol with G, La with A and Ti with B; and since the idea was to bring a little more intention to the use of the Greek alphabet, I transformed the letters to greek as follows: C-Κ, D-Δ, E-Ε, F-Φ, G-Γ, A-Α and B-β.

I'd like to conclude by saying that creation is a fascinating subject
And one of the more incredible points of it is that we are a part of it. The bible tells us that God made human beings as the crown of creation, and by doing this project I remembered this: we were all filled with an infinity of talents and gifts, with creativity to make the most of them. This idea came to me, the way most ideas reach all of us, but most of the time we give them up, and I was tired of giving up on my ideas, on my projects, I recalled a saying that goes "a goal without a plan is just a wish"' and that is why I put all I had into this idea until it came to be. It may sound cheesy but it's very true, don't let anything destroy your ideas, try hard and make them happen. I hope you liked mine and I'll wait with baited breath for yours.

Quisiera finalizar diciendo que la creación es un tema fascinante
Uno de los puntos más increíbles de ésta, es que nosotros seamos parte de ella. La Biblia describe que Dios hizo al ser humano corona de la creación, y al realizar este proyecto recordé esto; nosotros fuimos llenos de una infinidad de dones y talentos, de creatividad para sacarles el provecho. Esta idea llegó a mí, así como a muchos de nosotros nos llega una idea, pero la mayoría de las veces renunciamos a ella, y yo ya estaba cansado de renunciar a mis ideas, a mis proyectos. Recordé entonces una frase que dice “Una meta sin un plan es solo un sueño”, y por eso le puse todo mi empeño a esta idea hasta llevarla a su realización, sonará a un discurso cursi motivacional pero es muy cierto, no dejen que nada ni nadie destruya sus ideas, esfuércense y sáquenlas adelante. Espero les haya gustado la mía y aguardaré con ansias por las suyas.
