Editorial - Natures Destruction

My original design was trying to portray how urbanisation and human activity has had a big impact on the environment and has caused some species to become extinct.
I then redesigned and decided to make a simpler version. The Dr Martins because they are originally a British product and the black zipper spider because this is one of the species mentioned in the text.
The image was reworked and instead of having the union Jack as a background it has been made as the tag on the Dr Martins. textures were applied to the boots and the shadow below the spider.
I landed on the colour red because i found it quite threatening and scary
I was advised to make the image black and white and only keep in the colour the flag and the spider in order to suggest rather than give a definite implication. The red gradient was placed underneath the spider o the spider was more visible
This is the final completed version. the whole image was turned black and white and only the spider and flag left in colour. This was done as a method to suggest the features of the text. The texture on the grass was changed to a more subtle one and then just some basic shadows placed under the spider, boot and in the foreground to create depth.
