For this project I built a miniature set of my childhood living room from memory. Everything in the room is built from paper. Then I made a cardboard projector to project home footage of me and my brothers as children into the room. I wanted to play around with permanence and nostalgia. Both of my brothers have moved into their own homes in the past three months, and I went away to college. My home life feels really empty now and made me nostalgic for my childhood. For this project I wanted to play around with permanence and nostalgia. Both of my brothers have moved into their own homes in the past three months, and I went away to college. My home life feels really empty now and made me nostalgic for my childhood. So I chose to make a shoebox projector because it's a 2d image, but the light still takes a 3d volume. I then built a tiny set of my childhood living room, entirely from paper to project into. I wanted to use paper to continue on the theme of temporariness and frailty. The projection itself is temporary and almost impossible to catch on film. This is a piece that really needs to be experienced firsthand to get the full experience. Which felt really appropriate for the feeling I wanted to capture.
