Moustachio Nut 2016

Moustachio Nut is a charity project I created in 2013 in support of the Prostate Cancer Research Centre.  It takes place every November to coincide with Movember, and focuses on those participating in Movember, and people who already have beards or moustaches. It is more often referred to in any posts as MNUT, purely due to character restrictions on social sites.
"The Mission of PCRC is to develop new therapy for men with advanced prostate cancer. The immediate goal is to increase survival and our vision is a cure for the disease.
The Prostate Cancer Research Centre is the only charity solely focused on funding world class scientists developing new treatments for advanced prostate cancer."

"Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. Over 11,000 men die every year in the UK and the number increases every year.
Advanced prostate cancer is treated with hormone therapy, developed in the 1940s. Hormone therapy is still the primary and most effective treatment for advanced prostate cancer. Consequently, survival rates have improved little over the last 70 years. New and more effective therapy is urgently needed.
We are dedicated to improving the survival of the next generation of men and better treatment can only come through research."
2016 saw me take a slightly different approach to previous years. Once again the team at K Barbers Emporium showed their support and helped raise donations from their barber shop on Leigh Broadway, but rather than me base myself at the shop and photograph their bearded clients, this year the team snapped those willing to be photographed on their phones, later sending me the photo so I could be somewhat creative on them in Photoshop.   The final set of photographs is going to be produced into a book for them entitled; "K Fuzzbook".
In addition to the K Fuzzbook I also managed to get along to a meeting of the Essex Beardsmen in Chelmsford, having been invited along by member Trevor Parrett, who like Kevin Vorley (K Barbers) has been a supporter of the project since 2014.
The Beardsmen in attendance where true gentlemen, and their partners just as receptive to getting involved.
Their meeting was held at the Queens Head pub, and having never been there before I was uncertain as to what the setting would be like. Bearing this in mind, and uncertain as to how many members would be in attendance, I decided to strip my kit bag right down to the bear essentials; camera, lens, two small lights - Manfrotto CROMA 2LED and Rotalight lights. Both of which were intended to be used simply as fill lights rather than a main light for the subject. The main light source was going to be that which was available.

The Queens Head had three very different aesthetic corners, and I found that even the bar itself offered two very different perspectives on opposing sides. In short, it was the perfect venue providing plenty of variation.
There were a couple of members however that were unable to make the meeting, but were more than happy to get involved in the Moustachio Nut Project, and so, through Trevor Parrett once again, it was arranged for us to meet in Battlesbridge at Beardsmen member, Harry Scragg's shop, Curiosities From The Fifth Corner.
I'd like to thank all who participated and donated to this project, as without donations the Prostate Cancer Research Centre cannot continue to do what they do as they rely solely on the generosity of donations and charity projects such as Moustachio Nut.

If you would like to get involved in MNUT17, then simply drop me an email at gary.fernon@photoreceptorcell.co.uk
It doesn't matter where you are in the world, everyone can get involved.
Without Photography, There Is No History.
