Mystical Characters- Concepts Final

This project was made for my Concepts final during my Spring semester at RISD. The idea of it was to create a 'seeker' or 'traveler' and include characters the seeker would meet in its journey- also to include an animal. My 'seeker' is a 7-foot-tall deaf melon-headed alien creature named Ven who spent his entire life on Earth happily until his twin brother Jack died of unusual circumstances resulting in the obliteration of theĀ universe.Ā

Amidst the vacant space caused by his twin brother Ven realizes he has the unique ability to rip into the fabric of reality with his bare hands and uses this ability to escape the dark emptiness he would no longer be succumbed to. By ripping into the fabric of reality he has created portals into other versions of reality on Earth and first finds an old scythe in an abandoned farmhouse to assist him in making larger portals

With the old scythe he enters a deserted island and finds a tiger, named Tiger, who is blind and lived on the island by herself without ever seeing the beauty the island held.

Then Ven travels to an arid desert where a child, named Child, lives by herself in a little blue house.

Ven travels again to a small fantastical city where all of the civilians wear masks and meets the Thief.Ā

Instead of drawing character sheets I decided to make the characters 3-dimensional because I wanted to do something different with the classic character line up that I would always find in books or online.Ā
Fun fact: I made the character Ven when I was a small child and I believed that if I ever revealed him he would die so I kept him as a secret for most of my childhood. Also I had in incredibly difficult time physically portray him so it took me several years to finally convey him in something other than a figment of my imagination
