Africa Fashion Week is an annual runway presentation hosted by African Fashion International (AFI), providing a platform for the brightest talents of the African continent to showcase their collections.
The event required a new visual identity system that would see the Africa Fashion Week logo work in conjunction with the 2 partner event logos for Africa Fashion Awards and Africa Fashion Trade Expo.
The brief required that the 'African hair needle' symbol of the previous year remained at the core of the new logo
The client eventually agreed that the needle logo should be updated with a centralized symbol so as to create a more balanced look, less negative space and a better basis for the 2 other logos to work with. The intricate texture that filled the hair needle shape of the original logo was later lost entirely due to imminent problems that would arise during reproduction.
