At the Nanyang Academy Of Fine Arts
For my Diploma Grad Show 2012, I decided to showcase my works in a different format than the masses - The usual format was to display a select project(s) in a moldboard-esque layout, which in my opinion - the act of hundreds of students displaying their works in a 90x90cm layout board had too much conforming involved.
However, the requirements was to restrict everything to a 90x90 foam mount, with nothing sticking out or accompanying it.
I decided to showcase snippets of my work in 90x90 graphic, which consisted of mini boxes whereby the works would be slotted in digitally, while maintaining the idea of an art piece, that could standalone yet display my works in it - with the website link to my portfolio included.
Also, I did additional posters, with the intention of having them given out pre-show, to garner a little extra interest before the show would begin, to be pasted and distributed around the school and nearby buildings.
Addressed in the Grad Show was also the issue of having name cards to mark your identity - Although name cards work well as a staple takeaway for the visitors, I wanted something more personal for them to takeaway from the show - NAFA did not provide any proper 'souvenir' except a brochure, which paled in comparison with the usual norm of a full fledged multiple paged book.
I decided to do a manual Screen Printing of Handkerchiefs, from self cut pieces of cloth from a larger roll.
These Handkerchiefs were to be numbered and given out as memorabilia, but more than that, an item that could be used and would come in handy whenever the need arises, as well as a nice little reminded of the designer behind it - with my information and thanks on the Handkerchief.
Adding to the exclusivity of this unusual piece of cloth, the Handkerchiefs came in two color ways - Black on White cloth, and White on Camo cloth. The Camo pieces ran with a much more limited amount.
