It's hard to tell in the previous photos, but the bright blue accent areas are actually BACKLIT, with bulbs positioned behind those areas. The blue panels of the UFOs "beams" were translucent styrene that was adhered on to the front to visually fuse with the solid falconboard that makes up the rest of the UFOs.
