The city of Remembered Voices
Located inside a very important biosphere reserve, the Tikal National Park, in Guatemala is the setting that I have chosen for my diploma project. The Citadel of TIKAL is also, one of the most enigmatic and beautiful Mayan cities in the world.
The program, an Archeology Museum an Research Center of Tikal`s Natural Reserve, was part of the subject of an International Competition, "TIKAL 2011".
The biggest challenge was to give architectural shape to an element that, considering its location next to an important archaeological monument, is able to respect it while at the same time providing an important architectural presence.
The structure resulted in a contextual object; friendly but not necessarily repetitive; and monumental but not necessarily competitive. In sum: it looks as if the structure, through its close rapport with the Tikal ruins, is an extension or enlargement, but with authentic contemporary characteristcs
