"Penguin's" Adult Fiction brief this year, was to recreate the cover art for the classic Harper Lee novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird". After looking at the visuals that have already been created for this book, I decided straightaway that I wanted to do something different and unique, in my minimalist style, as they were all very similar and mundane. As the story is written from Scout's viewpoint, I wanted her to be the focus point for the cover. The story is based upon her witnessing events throughout her younger years, so I took inspiration from this. Basing the idea upon Scout's eye, I wanted the visual to resemble her looking at the key events told in the story and therefore, looking out at the reader, holding the book. Using birds feathers, I created prints that resembled an eye, looking out at the viewer, hence the formation of them.
