In the Fall of 2008, HoustonPBS was named the as the new host and sponsor of the Spelling Bee. The winner from the HoustonPBS Spelling Bee would go on to represent Southeast Texas at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
I wanted go give the logo an athletic and collegiate look but I also had to find a way to include the swoosh from the HoustonPBS logo. In the original design, I created a bee to be alongside the logo but I decided the honeycombs alone were a great way to brand the event.

The 2011 and 2012 DVD artwork is no longer customized for reach participant but has been updated significantly since the 2009 Bee.
