This zine is a graphical documentation of what I saw during my stay in Japan. Being in Japan for the very first time, everything seemed strange yet exciting. Like a child, I was seeing the city and country with a fresh pair of eyes. For 10 days, I was in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture for a Designers in Residency program called ‘Door to Asia’. This program is a collaborative effort between a group of passionate and dedicated natives and Japan Foundation - focusing on the efforts of disaster recovery and city revitalization through design. Designers from Asian countries [Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan and Republic of Korea] were invited to participate in this program. This program offers designers an opportunity to explore the role of a designer in the time of disaster, to raise awareness locally and internationally, to lend supports and help to the local community in rebuilding their businesses and livelihood post the tsunami.
