Gumitwist - Socially Responsive Animations in the Place of TV Commercials (Abstract)
My goal was to find and explore the reasons and importance for placing short socially responsive animations into the space of TV commercials. What I see as a problem are mass-media messages, addressed to the widest possible audience. Using visual intervention I intend to improve that space with social responsiveness and credibility. At the same time this intervention is benefitial to the advertisers, making the commertial blocks more interesting.
As a possible solution I suggest an inclusion of distinctly short animated video sequences into the TV advertising space, similar to short video clips which are used between TV shows. Regarding the chosen media of television, my animations can not induce an effect as provocative as underground animations, unless I combine them with persuasive advertising and seize contrast between strictly marketing space and extremely non-marketing animations.
