Hair photography is a style of shooting that is very near and dear to me. One of my first official shoots as a professional photographer was to help a good friend and hairstylist shoot her submissions for a hair competition she was entering. Since then, I have worked with numerous local salons to capture endless looks as styled by their team--from natural and soft to outrageous and outlandish, hair photography is a different style of shooting that focuses not only on the model, their poses and expressions, but highlights the technical skills of the stylist as well. It is my job as the photographer to honor the technique of hair and to respect the stylist's colour choices, textures, and arrangements.
This shoot is my second collection shot with the talented team at Blue Gemini Hair Studio. The concept behind this set is dark and editorial with a harder edge. Each team member came up with a look using a combination of bold hair colours, pale complexions, and skin art to create a cohesive collection of cutting edge styles that exudes an alien, androgynous editorial look.
We were also fortunate enough to have Prasann Patel shoot a behind-the-scenes video to document the making of these incredible images.
