Christmas 2014 I asked Christian Werner to photograph the house of my recently deceased grandfather. A man who had become 80 years old, had survived his wife by a few years, and had left the traces of a typically provincial post-war West German portrait in an arrangement of personal things around him. Christian Werner photographed the house on a single day before it was cleared. The snapshot, which tells of the life of Mr. and Mrs. B., is at the same time a piece of living culture and lifestyle of the BRD.
