This is a series of spot illustrations for the newsweekly Willamette Week in Portland OR. Julie Showers was the art director on the project. This was a quick project equating to about two days of studio time between collecting information, developing and discussing sketches/comps and submitting the print-ready final work. I created the comp drawings with pencil and paper, then inked and colored digitally using Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom Cintiq. Read Less

SPOT ILLUSTRATIONS FOR WILLAMETTE WEEK

Here are four spot illustrations that I produced for Willamette Week, working with their art director Julie Showers.

The illustrations were inked and colored in Adobe Photoshop using a Wacom 13HD Cintiq, while sitting at a pre-1950s student drafting table (I love this table).
The following were the preliminary sketches, or comps, that I put together after receiving the details.

I love doing preliminary drawings in blue line in sketchbooks. My typical "go-to" tools are Staedtler non-photo blue pencils and Moleskine journals.
