ARCHEOPARK “MEZHDURECHYE”
Archeopark “Mezhdurechye” is multifunctional tourist complex, which is located on the shores of the Volga River in Russia. It contains sites of archaeological excavations, center of handicraft and open-air museum of an early settlement, which existed between the 9th and 13th centuries AD.
The challenge was to develop a design strategy that would live up the site’s history and could make a sustainable public space for communication, education and experience exchange. The concept that guided the design approach was the concept of past and present integration.
The main role of this archeological center is to preserve and to enhance national heritage and all these artefacts, which are parts of the collective memory and history. Preservation of cultural heritage and study of human history provide a concrete basis for the future generations and demonstrate a recognition of the necessity of the past and of the things that tell its story.
