UURAF Booklet Design

From Michigan State's website:
The annual University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF) is Michigan State's premier showcase for undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity. Through involvement in the Forum, students have the opportunity to present their work in the form of a poster or oral presentation, or to showcase their creations. All currently enrolled Michigan State undergraduate students who are engaged in original work are eligible to participate.
From the time I started college, I’ve heard about UURAF. My friends would tell me about their research, and it always fascinated me. Since then, I’ve regarded UURAF as an event where new ideas are shared with everyone. Students show up with research they have been working on for a long time, and participate in a celebration of everyone’s achievements. This is where my idea for this design started. I chose to carve letters out of a square, and then use parts of each letter to create a set of tiles. Some of the lines meet others, while some lead to dead ends, as does the process of research. When things do line up, you end up with something special, and that is something to be proud of. As I am always amazed by the research of others, I wished to communicate that sense of wonder through my design.
Each year, students from the MSU chapter of AIGA designs the cover for the UURAF program book, and this was my submission.
