Redeeming the Fragments
This semester, as I tried to streamline my daily routines and maximize my time, I found myself thinking about small bits of time—the 10-minute breaks, the 30 minutes of down time between classes. In this piece, I wanted to reflect the complexity of how our time is really divided, and I wanted to encourage thought about how we're using the time we have.
Consequently, many of the paper strips in this collage represent various aspects of average American life: newspaper and magazine fragments, clippings from my school papers, screenshots from Facebook and Snapchat as well as news and weather websites, a family photo, a frame from a movie, and pieces of my church bulletin.
The apostle Paul wrote about "redeeming the time," looking to fully use each opportunity and moment we have (Ephesians 5:16, King James Version). At least in my case, that might involve paying attention to the "fragments."
