These are some of the images created for X, the self-driving car segment of Google, to announce their brand, Waymo.
The images were rendered using Autodesk's VRED Professional. HDR Light Studio 5 was used for lighting. Photoshop was used for retouching. The left image (below) was originally retouched by another artist, and then I re-retouched it (right image), with my own interpretation- bigger wheels, motion blur, integration into backdrop... after hand-off to the client.
Aron Pruiett shot the backplate for the top image in Mountain View, CA. I went along on the shoot and used my Ricoh Theta 360 camera to record bracketed exposures for creating .hdris for this image and 2 others (not shown).
Unlike most automotive imagery that is "dramatic" and "aggressive",the client wanted to express this vehicle as "safe", and "friendly".
