A vision to a better & faster Recovery
My goal is to design a digital product and service that will help a patient stay focused & motivated, on his or her journey of recovery from a sports injury or surgery. The area of healthcare, that I will be designing for is Physiotherapy. The digital product and service will help a Physiotherapist stay organised and up to date with his or hers patients recovery data. The patient will have a better experience when attending appointments and doing his or her rehab exercises at the physiotherapy clinic or at home. The digital product and service can be used across multiple devices by patients and Physiotherapist. This product could also be used by other medical positions in hospitals.
Patient Needs
During this project I interviewed patients who got injured from playing sport. I also talked to patients who got injured from other actives not related to sport. I wanted to make sure that the digital product and service could help patients with different injuries. After the interviews, I found out that a lot of the patients needs had a lot in common.

These needs are:
Motivation
Reminders
Seeing Progress
Video Demonstrations

Interview with Joey Boland
During this project I did two interviews with Joey Boland the owner of Sports Physio Ireland a Senior Dublin hurler (08-present). He is a chartered physiotherapist (2010) who is currently completing a master in Sports and Exercise medicine who specialises in ACL rehabilitation and chronic low back and hip injury rehabilitation.
I wanted to known, how would a physiotherapist benefit when using the Recovery App and what would a physiotherapist like to see when using the app.

Sports Physio Ireland
Joey gave me permission to take photos of him working with patients and to see how the studio works. Taking these photos were a huge help with the designing process of App and Brand Identity.
Sitemap/Wireframe
To fix the patients problem, The digital product and service had to work in three stages.
The first stage is to plan a program, were all information is taken down by the physiotherapist and is made into a new account.
Second stage is to give patient access to his or her account information via App.
Third stage is for data to be recorded when patient uses App. Data is then sent back to physiotherapist via cloud or USB wrist band.
Prototyping
When prototyping I first made a paper mock up, to get a rough idea of navigation of the Recovery App. I then got my sisters boyfriend Paul to test out the paper prototype. He found it hard to understand the paper layout. I then gave him a digital prototype. He found this much easier and could understand the layout. I designed the prototype using Adobe Experience.
Brand Identity
I wanted the brand to promote all three stages of recovery. By drawing the circle around the physiotherapist and patient you have the human element of Recovery. The lines are a symbol of reaching your goal of Recovery.
Recovery App
When a patient uses the Recovery App they can book or cancel appointments. They can see their progress data. If they forget how to do an exercise they can look back at their own personal videos that were made by the physiotherapist. The patient can contact the physiotherapist by facetime or message. The patient can share their progress on social media to let their team mates or family members know that they are getting better.
Advertising
When designing the advertisement, I wanted to show the connection between patient, physiotherapist and the Recovery App. I also wanted to show that the mirror in the studio could be used as a monitoring analysis system screen, were the physiotherapist could play back videos and show patients data.

I had the opportunity to present my concept to Deloitte Digital, was an amazing experience and a presentation I will never forget. Photo taken by Brenda Duggan Digital Media Lecturer at DIT
Rationale
The goal of this project was to help a patient recover from an injury with the help of a digital product and service called Recovery. This would be provided by a physiotherapist. The Recovery system would give a better experience for the patient. By giving the patient his or hers own account and digital dashboard, they will no longer need to use paper diagrams of exercises. If the patient forgets how to do an exercise they look back at their personal videos made and provide by the physiotherapist. The patient can reschedule a physiotherapy appointment. The patient can see their data and progress when completing their goals. When a patient can see that they are getting better, their confidence will grow and they will finish their physiotherapy course.

Overall I really enjoyed this project, It made me realize that I want to specialize in UI design. This project gave me a chance to use all my multimedia and Graphic Design skills to help people. By having the opportunity to help people with the use of Graphic Design and Technology is a good feeling, knowing that your helping people getting better. That is why I would like to continue learning more about UI design and how it can be further developed in Healthcare.
