In early 20011 UL launched a separate mobile site based on their popular home safety site, Safetyathome.com. That version of the mobile site offered a selection of articles and safety information found on the desktop site. However, because so much of the traffic coming to Safetyathome.com was originating on Google, mobile users were often presented with the homepage of the mobile site rather than the content they were searching for.
The solution was to use responsive web design to offer a mobile experience with one-to-one content parity with the desktop site. The responsive version of Safety At Home launched in October of 2011, and featured exclusive content with the Muppets and other holiday related features.
The responsive version of Safetyathome.com resulted in a 20% increase in overall site traffic from mobile devices.
