This piece is a mural done for the Orlando art supply store, Sam Flax. They put out a call for submissions: https://www.samflaxorlando.com/wallproject. My piece, "Shewolf Eat Shewolf", about hysteria and specifically anxiety and depression and the way it eats away at yourself. My work explores the idea of modern day forms of hysteria and how culture shapes and supports inorganic pathologies. The term "hysteria" has been used historically as a pejorative term to disempower demographics, from the suffragettes of turn of the century to the male Jew of the 20s and 30s, to today's Black Lives Matter activists. Aesthetically I speak about witchcraft in my work. Traditionally bewitching has been seen as a process of clouding one's view to reality. But my work suggests the opposite: the spell as a means of clearing the mind. My work has always asked its viewer to find empathy. In the current political climate, I find this to be dire to our survival. As a result, my work has taken on a bit more of desperation, from a request to a demand. Perhaps the work itself starts acting hysterical. Read Less
