This recording was inspired by the life and work of Mathias Armbruster, a German-born painter and U.S. Civil War veteran. In 1875 he founded Armbruster Scenic Studios in David’s hometown of Columbus, Ohio. It was the nation’s first stage production studio, fabricating sizable hand-painted scenic backdrops for theater companies across the United States.
