The American Red Cross Responds to Wildfires in TN

In recent months, the American Red Cross has focused heavily on the Tennessee community, where wildfires have destroyed 100 homes and displaced thousands of people. Red Cross staff promptly opened three emergency shelters, which provided temporary housing to 1,200 of the 14,000 people who had been asked to evacuate their homes. Food and medical services have also been made available to displaced families.

When a wildfire is a threat, Red Cross advises the public to plan ahead and secure a place to seek shelter outside of the threatened area. People should avoid engaging in any type of burning and anything activity that produces heat or contaminates the air. Families are also advised to secure their pets and prepare to move them quickly if necessary.
