PUSHTENI
PUSHTENI (Hindi) which means ‘inherited’ depicts the quaint old businesses that continue to survive in Mumbai formerly Bombay, in a day and age to which they appear unsuited. Mumbai is in all ways a mega-city driven by power, wealth, glamour and fame which attracts people to give shape to their dreams and aspirations.
Inspiration
These are some of the ‘heritage trades’ that go unnoticed by many. But they still provide a living for the people owning them even in the hustle and bustle of Mumbai city. These are usually inherited from generations in their families and still continue to provide services in the corners of Mumbai. With this concept I intent on shedding some light on these lesser known business practices and to acknowledge their presence, which adds magic to the indelible spirit of Mumbai.
The Form
The illustrations are placed in a hive-shaped structure as a hive is a place in which people are busily occupied.
