Plink: 3D-printed Character Model

Sometimes you do unusual things as a graphic designer because you're the "creative one" in the office. This is one of those times. I had the opportunity to assist in the creation of a model for a clockwork-powered steampunk bird from a JourneyForth youth fiction book to promote the book's launch. The project was designed to draw interest to an author signing in conjunction with more traditional promotional materials like pull-up banners, posters, bookmarks etc. This was a collaborative effort with another designer. My portion involved managing the pre-flight and production of the model, assembling the 3D-printed components and fabricating others as well as painting the final piece. The printer used was not the highest quality or resolution (but it was available and it was also free) which is why the striations from the printing process are so prominent. Because of this, I chose to leave the model a little rougher and allow the texture of of the components to become a feature of the model. Note the texture on the wings makes the feathers appear to have additional surface detail which is purely a result of the printing process.
