Black and Blue
Black and Blue
Some type of sub-title
This four piece series i took for my digital photography class in Fall of 2010 as the first part of my final project. Inspiration for this undertaking came from both my own patterns in my work and one other photographer’s creations. This photographer, Dawoud Bey, whose portfolio I looked at while visiting Yale University one afternoon is who I got the idea to do the paneling style from. I feel that this look is rather compelling and discussable because the photographs can be placed in many different ways with the same effect. With my love of strong, dramatic lighting and bold color and Bey’s paneling technique I believe my final product was exactly how I envisioned it.

I wanted to capture and document beauty. Most of the photographs scream marketing and fashion. One of my goals, that I truly believe I achieved, was to make each of the four images strong as a whole but also as individual prints. The editing process was key in making this happen. Being able to enhance and leave in just the color blue of the paint is one of the keys aspects of this series and technology made this possible.

If these photos have a mission, it is this: to pull from the old black and white style and incorporate 21st century characteristics into that. The theme of this four piece series is simplicity yet not simple. I wanted to use the basics of black and white images with a single, dynamic pop of color.
