3D Model: Big Data

BIG DATA
Hypothesis-
Big data is influencing the Internet of things in our daily lives.
The growth in the volume and variety of data is immense and the speed of generating new data is accelerating in a structured and unstructured manner at a very fast pace.
In the model, the cloud shaped earth is symbolic of the data that is or will be stored in or linked to the cloud in the near future. The cloud is made up of binary digits to depict the digital era/revolution that has and will affect the entire global economy.
The model is made in different layers to depict the complexity of our current society at many levels because of excessive data in our surroundings and how the dynamics will keep becoming intricate in the future. The question is that is technology actually making our lives easier or more difficult? Is it solving our problems or creating more problems in place of the previous ones?
Big data is currently very unregulated but also plays a very integral role in our economic growth. It is not the amount of data that’s important, its what we do with the data that matters. Thus, Big data tools work best when governed by human judgement.
Data mining may increase social stratification. Those who are rich and well educated will be able to take more advantage of the big data as compared to the poor and under privileged. In today’s information age, we live in a glocal world. Our digital footprints are all over the Internet and can be tracked by anyone. This undermines our privacy.
Big data is all about logistics and analytics. More the data; more the improvement in technology to store and utilize it. For example- big data has helped in the progression and development of Robotics, Precision Agriculture, Genomics, Block Chains, etc. and helps organizations from almost all the industries such as Banking, Healthcare, Education, Government, Retail. This also leads to personalization of experiences, as these developments are very human - centric.
The Internet of Things revolves around increased machine-to-machine communication. It is built on cloud computing and networks of data-gathering sensors. It is going to make everything in our lives “smart.” For example- smart phone, smart fridge, etc.
Cloud-based applications are the key to using big data. The Internet of Things doesn’t function without cloud-based applications to interpret and transmit the data coming from all these sensors. To portray the same, the model shows IOT by connecting different day-to-day objects to the cloud.
The Internet of Things will improve the social, political and economic intelligence by 2020 to an extent that it will be difficult to distinguish between Reality and Virtual Reality, Humans and Machines, Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence.
The model also shows how the Information and Digital Era has made all the places, elements, people and things so inter-connected and interdependent.
