archetypes translated into contemporary langue visual code.
ARTEMIS | 50 x 70cm
ARTEMIS - Virgin goddess of the hunt, wilderness, wild animals, childbirth and plague. In later times she became associated with the moon. Her sacred animals are deer, bears, and wild boars. In my presentation she represents a manifestation of an animal, intuitive and ritual elements consisted in a nature of woman. In part goddess, part animal, part woman this creature shows us a strong and mysterious sexual energy masked and hidden behind the veil of presentation that is obvious. Leads us to question about layers and profoundness of the soul, all hidden corners of a complex character. Ageing and changing by time, influences and experience, we are witnessing a transformation based on opposites, different far aspects that unite all different parts in one whole. HERA| 50 x 70 cm
HERA - Queen of marriage, women, childbirth, heirs, kings and empires.. She was usually depicted as a very beautiful woman wearing a crown and veil symbols of royalty. My vision of modern Hera is a representation of an uncommon type of beauty. Now days where world offers us so many choices and definitions, samples of beauty and grace look-alike, world with so many forced prototypes - i wanted to create my own reflection of all that opposite approaches into one creature. Beautiful and at the same time ugly and repulsive, contemporary but with the sense of old fashioned traditional grace, very aggressive but at the same time scared , this character speaks us about of complexity of every living individual, where past future and diverse - often very distant influences built us in very unique and complex persons sized of opposites.
HADES | 50 x 70 cm
Hades - the king of the Underworld and god of the dead and the hidden wealth of the Earth speaks about dual identity of every man. It shows an inside and outside reflection of personal character joined in one. Translated in the contemporary world his strong figure implies the relationship between dreams, natural world and the emptiness of consumer culture - everyday marks of reality. I have created a new type of creature combined with elements based on opposites, ego and alter ego, external manifest and internal being. Strongly focused on figurative narration this character reflects us - modern society without it's masks, without the fake presentations that make us acceptable to whatever group we are a part of. Yet the only place where we are truly revealed the way we are - is one from the inside.
