An interactive poster series based on the mythology surrounding the Zippo lighter. By choosing a seemingly utilitarian item and researching it extensively I was able to uncover the literal denotation but also the connotations and mythologies surrounding the lighter.
Working with the ideas of American-made quality, I created a sculptural sequential poster series that utilizes original photography and AR (Augmented Reality) to project a time-based video piece onto the poster via a smartphone. The motion piece consists of archival footage of American manufacturing and the Dust Bowl, helping to place the item within a historical context. The QR codes on the poster link to the Aurasma AR application as well as a fallback link to the motion piece via Vimeo hosting.
